The BBC News at Six is the evening news programme bulletin from the BBC. Produced by BBC News, the programme is broadcast on BBC One and the BBC News channel Monday to Sunday at 6:00pm. On average it is watched by four million viewers.
The film
With all the talk of a referendum, we were asked in 2016 by the BBC to make an explainer video that shows how the EU works.
As the world’s biggest single market, the EU has a greater GDP than the United States of America, so it’s important for people to know who wields power in the EU and how decisions are made. We show the relationships between the European Parliament, the European Commission and individual countries, and how the Union grows and changes all the time.
The context
The BBC set up a guide to explain how the EU works and this film was made for part of that effort to explain the workings of the EU to the general public.
