About the client
Responding to research by the OECD on the negative activities that surround high value minerals, the European Commission have created legislation, putting in place due diligence requirements for European importers. To publicise this and direct people to additional information the European Commission came to us.
The challenge
Our challenge was to create a film which balanced an optimistic, relatable and light tone with serious content, while operating within the brand guidelines. This tone was embodied by the voiceover, which had to be gentle but assertive.
The film
The European Commission have created legislation to address concerns raised by OECD research, ensuring that minerals entering the supply chain haven’t contributed to harmful activities.
To bring this important information to the screen we took an approach which used illustration and animation in a paired back way. Characters and illustrations such as cargo ships took a realistic approach. Something also followed by icons such as a clipboard to indicate managing risk and a fist to reflect violence. Metaphors like a mine cart going around the globe took a similarly restrained approach to embody the film and engage viewers without being distracting. Combined with a positive but authoritative voiceover, we made a relatable film which informed viewers clearly and directed them to with a call to action to further information.
