Schools are beacons that enrich the whole community. This is why protecting our schools is so important, and why Ravenscourt Action Group have taken a stand against the proposed redevelopment of Flora Gardens and Avonmore primary schools. Our creative team translated their message into an explainer video ready to inform key stakeholders and the wider community about the issues and solutions.
The brief
Flora Gardens and Avonmore primary schools represent an opportunity to redevelop schools in ways that enrich the community. Our brief was to create a 90-second explainer video that showed the importance of these opportunities, raised awareness about concerns with current plans that could harm the community and put forward an alternative solution.
Our animation needed to be able to reach and connect with key stakeholders and draw attention to the issues for the wider community.
The Explainer Animation
Our video started by asking a big question, how do we refurbish and redevelop schools that fall into disrepair?
As the script delivered Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s proposed plans, stark and direct illustrations such as construction equipment and fallen trees showed their implications for the school and community.
A combination of characters, onscreen text and locations allowed us to bring Ravenscourt Action Group’s solution to the screen and the benefits it could bring to the community.
Our narrative explored detailed criticisms relating to Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s plans. We used highly relatable and memorable visual metaphors such as the council marking their own homework to highlight the issues Hammersmith Society have with these plans and draw attention to the national context.
To draw the explainer video to a close, we took a positive note, looking towards what can be achieved when all community voices are listened to. Reflecting this, we translated the engagement created by the video into a call to action with real-world impacts.
The Client
Ravenscourt Action Group are part of The Hammersmith Society, which has been working to preserve and enhance the architecture and urban environment since 1962.
