Visions are amazing things; they’ve taken us across oceans and up to the moon. They have helped us create great works of art, invent life-changing tech and transform good ideas into world leading organisations and companies. The difficult part comes when trying to share a vision and get other people to the same place as you.
When you get everyone to that place, great things can be achieved, and one way of doing it is to use whiteboard animation. Thanks to its combination of features and the creative freedom it offers, whiteboard animation has what it takes to capture your vision and share it with the people that can help you make it happen.
What visions can whiteboard animation help you share?
Whiteboard animations are able to make the complex feel simple, the detail-heavy feel entertaining, show where a point fits in the bigger picture and guide viewers forward with calls to action. These are just a few of the factors that make whiteboard animation such a great way of communicating and inspiring people. They allow whiteboard videos to supercharge messages in lots of industries and areas! Just a few include:
Big ideas - big ideas have a lot of moving parts and tend to involve many levels! Whiteboard explainers make ideas accessible, explaining them both on a small scale and as a big picture.
Pitch videos - when it comes to making a pitch, there often isn’t much time to get your message across and convince people. By using multiple streams of information, whiteboard animations can get a lot across quickly in a memorable way.
Big projects - whether it’s an expedition to the Antarctic or a major construction project, getting people behind the vision plays an essential part in a project’s success. By combining rich visuals with an inspiring call to action, you can give viewers everything they need to bring a vision to life.
New initiatives - new initiatives can breathe new life into an organisation, help it achieve new heights and reach even more people. For an initiative to do this well, everyone involved needs to understand why it is important and how it will work. Whiteboard animation provides an ideal solution here, linking and layering ideas.
Company culture - whether in remote working, or in person, company culture plays a massive role in the way a team works and relates to each other. It can be the difference between success and failure. Whiteboard videos help you create a shared culture in a format that is lasting and easy to share.
Book launches - creating books is no small feat, and they deserve to be launched in style. Whiteboard animations can summarise the themes in a book or explain key ideas, in a way that is perfect for social media and showing at in person events.
Ways whiteboard animation can share your vision
At every level, whiteboard animations are packed with abilities and features that celebrate and communicate your vision. It all starts with the script. A well written script can frame your message in the perfect way, setting the tone through the style of language you use and the narrative structure.
Visual thinking takes over from here. Thanks to illustration, whiteboard animations can tackle every subject, from the most abstract to the most every day. Your video can be tailored to your message and audience through custom made illustrations that reflect what you have to say perfectly and make your video relatable to your audience.
The illustrations pick up on the tone set by the script, taking it even further through character design, emotion, charm and visual style. An important part of visual thinking is mapping information in space. This allows you to develop an idea or illustration through the course of the animation and link it to others or the bigger picture.
Animation brings everything to life, adding even more engagement and emotion, while framing information and areas to focus on for the viewer. Onscreen text joins illustration and animation, helping you clarify important information and share messages, while a voiceover unites everything happening on screen with your script. At each stage of the process, you can make your animation exactly what it needs to be to share your vision and inspire your audience.
How do audiences react to whiteboard animation?
We were overwhelmed by the success of the RSA Animates and wanted to understand more about how audiences reacted to them. To do this, we worked with Professor Richard Wiseman, Professor of the Public Understanding of Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire. We compared a ‘talking head’ video and a whiteboard animation that used the same soundtrack.
The findings were startling. Compared with the ‘talking head’ video:
Viewers were 66% more likely to share the whiteboard animation
The whiteboard animation resulted in a 15% increase in information retention
The whiteboard animation was 33% more entertaining
It helped explain the exceptional reception of the RSA Animates, and since the launch of the first Animate, we have worked tirelessly to advance whiteboard animation and improve the audience experience even further.
We love visions, they make great things happen. We Are Cognitive started as a vision. That’s why we work hard to ensure that every whiteboard animation we create is able to engage, inform and stay with viewers. We’d love to hear about your vision! I have written a lot about failure. It’s something of a fascination for me. I am in a constantly evolving process with failure. When does failure become a success? Are there any true failures or is it just an endless process?
