World Bank
Utilities of the Future Center of Excellence
The aim of Sustainable Development Goal 6 is to ensure that by 2030, everyone has access to clean water and sanitation. However, as 2030 approaches, we must face the fact that we’re falling behind. To meet the deadline we must embrace change. To create this change, the World Bank has established the Utilities of the Future Center of Excellence!
The Brief
The goal for our creative team was to explain what the Utilities of the Future Center of Excellence is, why it’s needed and what its potential global impact on water and sanitation services will be. We had to cover all this in just two minutes, in a relatable way for key stakeholders such as staff working at utility companies, regulators and policymakers.
The Animation
Our animation for the World Bank depended on engaging and relatable visual thinking. This visual thinking can be seen in moments such as the use of a character’s reflection to represent reconsidering how our utilities work and icon images that capture the issues facing water and sanitation services.
Our animation tackled global issues and we used a global cast of characters to ensure that audiences around the world could relate to the film. These visual tools, and others, allowed us to explain the commitments made in Sustainable Development Goal 6, and the situation we currently face. This allowed our narrative to move on to the solution offered by the World Bank, the Utilities of the Future Center of Excellence. Accompanying our voiceover, visual storytelling highlighted key points and the implications of the center for utilities.
Our call to action drew on the all the topics covered by the narrative, ending with a hopeful invitation to all viewers to become part of the change needed to help the world meet Sustainable Development Goal 6.
The Client
Made up of over 189 member countries, the World Bank is a global partnership that works towards the creation of sustainable solutions that reduce poverty in developing countries and build shared prosperity.
